If your G1 expiry date is coming up, don't panic. You still have a few options — it just depends on your situation.

Book a Road Test Before It Expires

If you book your road test before your G1 expires, you're allowed to take the test up to 42 days after the expiry date.

Just make sure the booking is made while your licence is still valid.

Once you've booked, visit a DriveTest centre to get a temporary extension so you're legally allowed to drive to your test.

Passed Your G2 but Running Out of Time?

If you pass your G2 and have less than a year left before your licence expires, you don't need to rush into your G test.

You can pay a $90 fee at DriveTest to extend your G2 for another five years.

Already Expired?

If your G1 has already expired and you didn't book a test, you'll have to start over and retake the knowledge test.

However:

  • Expired less than 3 years ago? The usual waiting periods are often waived, so you can move ahead faster.
  • Expired more than 3 years ago? You'll need to complete all the standard waiting periods again.
